Lord of the Rings

My absolute favorite books of all time!  This has to be the best story ever written!
It's best to think of this story, as the history that never happened.

Races of Middle Earth

Hobbits
Hobbits are a people small in stature, about the size of a human child.  They have large furry feet(they don't need to wear shoes because their feet naturally grow thick and durable soles) and curly hair.  They live in large dwellings cut into/under hills called hobbit holes that can extent for long distances.  Hobbits live to be usually at least over one hundred years old, and they "come of age" at 33 years.  Because of this, on their birthdays, hobbits give their guests presents, because over the years, they acquire so many things.  Hobbits are a mostly closed society, who detest adventures or anything out of the ordinary.  Out of all hobbit families, Tooks are known for being the most adventurous, but their money makes most other hobbits tolerate their adventurous natures.  Brandybucks are one of the oldest and wealthest hobbit families.
Hobbits love to eat.  They are especially greedy when it comes to mushrooms.  Their greediness for mushrooms measures almost as much as the "Big People's" greediness for power.  Hobbits are quite naive about the world outside of the Shire.  The Shire is divided into four sections:  the North Farthing, the South Farthing, and East Farthing, and the West Farthing.  Hobbits are quite fond of smoking through the use of long pipes.  For more details on the different weeds of the Shire, see Meriodic Brandybuck, who is probably the most knowledgable of all hobbits on the subject of Herb Lore.  Hobbits once upon a time had their own language, but now, if it is known by any, it is known by only a small few.  Mostly Hobbits use the Common Tongue.  The farthest outside of the Shire a hobbit is likely to travel is the village of Bree.  Hobbits do not usually swim, and they ride ponies, not horses.

Elves
Elves are a people of mystery.  In the Lord of the Rings, the Elves time in Middle Earth is coming to a close.  They are tall and have pointed ears.  The elves usually have blond hair, though Rivendell Elves sometimes have brunette hair.  All of their clothes are made out of very fine materials, that further show off their gracefulness.  They have very quiet voices that sound like they are singing, as well as superior eyesight and hearing.  The elves do not know disease or natural death.  They can though, be slaign in battle.
There are three major types of elves:  Lorien elves, Rivendell elves, and Mirkwood elves.  Legolas, the represent for the elves in the Fellowship, is the son of the King of the Mirkwood elves.  Lord Elrond is the leader of the Rivendell elves and father to Arwen, who is the granddaughter of Galadriel, queen of the Elves, who resides in Lothlorien.  Arwen travels between the two, Lorien and Rivendell, at times during her life.
The elves's buildings are built around trees deep in the woods/forests in which they reside.  The designs can be very delicately/ornately designed, because they have lived for such a long time, they have had time to work on them.  When the Elves leave the shores of Middle Earth, they past it on to the race of men.
